When Tinyan was in his early teens he studied at the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts in Canton, China. He spent much of his free time at the Pearl River, sketching scenes of every-day life. These sketches would prove to be invaluable to him as inspiration for his future work. Over a period of 11 years, Tinyan used these sketches to create a magnificent collection of 8 books collectively named: CANTON 100 VIEWS - Journey to the Past.
